A2A, from the EIB funding for 95 million euro for development of district heating
Milan, 13th January 2012 - A2A signed with the European Investment Bank (EIB) a funding contract for 95 million euro for the implementation of projects to develop district heating networks in the metropolitan area of Milan (in the municipalities of Milan, Novate Milanese and Sesto San Giovanni).
The aim of the projects is to maximise the contribution of heat generated by waste-to-energy plants and already existing co-generation plants and to increase the production of heat from renewable sources of the A2A Group.
The European Investment Bank, according to its own funding principles, positively assessed the investment plan which the A2A Group expects to make in the five year period of 2011-2015 to optimise and expand the district heating network and thermal capacity.
For the EIB, the projects are in line with funding criteria in the energy sector, since they will optimise the heat production mix and will reduce consumption of fossil fuels, in this way contributing to the achievement of the targets set by the EU.
The funding, which will last for 15 years, also allows A2A to lengthen the average duration of its borrowing and to diversify its sources.
