Objectives and Strategies
The Italian local utilities, in the light of the progressive opening of competition, has set under way a process of consolidation that is leading to the formation of a restricted number of operators of larger size, but with strong territorial roots.
In this context, AEM, ASM and AMSA have agreed upon the industrial value of the project which as aimed at
- Reaching adequate dimensions to compete with the other operators, both national and foreign
- Reinforcing integration wherever possible in the chain of values of characteristic activities
- Enhancing the contractual potential in open markets
To seize the opportunity deriving from the scaled economy and synergies of cost and investment with a view to improving the quality of services offered.
To reinforce the territorial roots of the new company that operates in places other than Milan, Brescia and Bergamo in numerous Lombardy and Emilian cities, continuing to provide important services to the citizen customers.
In particular the A2A creation permits:
- A strengthening of promotion and initiative for energy saving and sustainable cost, using innovative technology and managerial and industrial policies that are both innovative and appropriate, such as the production of renewable sources
- To create further value in business of gas, electricity environmental services (such as waste to energy and the disposal/treatment of waste)) and energy services for the territory (such as district heating and energy management).
The creation of a large national operating leader in the energy and environmental sector self-sufficient and completely integrated, assumes the role of a unifying pole, able to attract other local operators present in the adjacent geographical areas and complementary on a customer basis.
A2A proposes itself the initiative of creating values for the shareholders by means of exploiting advantages and benefits deriving from the attainment of an adequate level to compete successfully in the market of local public services, that are quickly becoming liberalised, from the complementarity of the areas of business that permits at the same time integration in every place in the chain of values and the territorial adjacency of the areas in which these operate.
In such a context synergies are expected deriving from the optimisation of the current industrial processes, such as; the management of energy portfolio, the homogeneity of the main operative activities (e.g. centralised purchase) and the unification of common activities (e.g. staff, services and technical co-ordination), the business of environmental services (WTE, disposal/treatment of waste, energy service for the territory (district heating, energy services) and the production of renewable sources.
