Controlled waste dumps

 Controlled waste dumps

A2A directly manages four controlled waste dumps for solid urban waste and special waste that can be assimilated to urban waste:

  • the "Bosco Sella", waste dump loacated in the Municipalities of Castegnato, Ospitaletto, Paderno Franciacorta and Passirano;
  • the "Buffalora" waste dump in the Municipality of Brescia;
  • the "Antica Idrovora" waste dump in the Municipality of Calcinato;
  • the "Cava Verde" waste dump in the Municipality of Montichiari.

In the design phase, only degraded area were taken into consideration due to the previous activity of sand and gravel extraction (quarries) and on account of their geographic location.

In all of the dumps, energy recovery takes place using biogas to produce electricity.
The "Cava Verde" dump has been operative since 1998 and has been inserted into the integrated waste treatment cycle in the province of Brescia.
The remaining three are under post-operative management.
The four dumps were built progressively from 1972 to the present day: this meant that the Province of Brescia was able to avoid periods of emergency in waste disposal, and being obliged to “export” it to other provinces.
In addition to these plants, there is “Macina”, a special waste dump for non dangerous waste in the Municipality of Castenedolo.
