Other plants from renewable sources
Apart from hydroelectric energy, A2A produces energy from renewable sources with biomass, biogas and the sun.
Biomass is used both in the waste to energy plant in Brescia and in combustion in the thermoelectric plant and at the thermal power station in Monfalcone. This consists of:
- animal waste, from the livestock industry ("MBM");
- vegetable waste deriving from the food and woodworking industry.
Biogas is generated from the biological activity present in landfills and sludge "digesters" from wastewater treatment plants. A2A intercepts and recovers to produce electrical or thermal energy, often used to meet the energy needs of the plants themselves.
A2A in Milan and Brescia produces a small amount of electricity from photovoltaic systems.
