WATER: TECHNOLOGY FOR THE ABATEMENT OF HEXAVALENT CHROMIUM

The objective

We carry out a careful research and testing activity in order to continue the improvement of water quality in Brescia. In particular, we choose the objective of solving the issue of the abatement of Hexavalent Chromium in the water drawn from wells, before despatching it to the distribution grid.

The completed project

Thanks to the addition of Iron Sulphate, the new abatement systems transform the Hexavalent Chromium found in the water into Trivalent Chromium. The latter can be easily removed - because it is insoluble - by filtering water on an activated carbon bed.

The percentage of drinkable water in Brescia, with levels of hexavalent chromium below the detection threshold (2 micrograms per litre), reached 100% at end 2015, thanks to the completion of the program for the installation of the new plants, started in August 2014.

This allowed to A2A Ciclo Idrico to reach the highest levels worldwide among the water service providers.
